JumpCity is your on-the-Web companion to Internet Media's books, What's on the Web®, and
What's on the Internet®, as well as other publications and video programming developed by Internet Media or Internet Media licensees and business partners.

JumpCity contains the full text of all reviews in What's on the Web and What's on the Internet covering the best of the Web, all keyword-searchable and listable in a variety of ways. JumpCity also makes it easy for you to access all the sites covered in Internet Media publications, through the use of Jump Codes we've assigned to each reviewed Web site--so now you won't have to enter those tedious URLs. Here are a few simple instructions for getting around JumpCity...

How Do I Use JumpCity's Jump Feature?

While it couldn't be easier to reach the best sites on the Web with JumpCity, there are a few simple things you need to know...

Use the Jump Bar, displayed in the top frame of every page on JumpCity, to enter Jump Codes listed for each Web site in our printed guides. You enter Jump Codes into the rectangular box at the top of your browser's window.

You can reach any site featured in our guides by entering its four or five-digit Jump Code, and then pressing the ENTER (or Return) key on your keyboard.

The Web site you're jumping to will now be displayed in the larger frame window in the main viewing area of your browser.

What If I Can't Reach a Web Site After I Entered a Jump Code?

Remember that the Web is growing and changing rapidly. Sometimes Web sites featured in our guides may move elsewhere on the Web, or may cease operating entirely after What's on the Web was printed. We make every effort to check the sites featured on JumpCity but, since these sites are owned and operated by other publishers, we can't guarantee they will always be operational.

If you can't reach a site on the first try, wait a little while and try again. If a site has been discontinued by its publisher, we will try to provide you with an alternate selection on JumpCity when you enter the Jump Code for the site, by re-routing you to a substitute site of equal quality.

How Can I View Sites on a Specific Subject?

Click on any of the subject-specific links displayed on the
JumpCity main page to list reviews for top Internet Web sites and other features in our "mini-review format."

You can see all of the reviews we offer in Jump City through this mini-review format. Here, we display a great deal of information on each Web site we review: A small thumbnail graphic, the first sentence of its review written by us, and other useful information to let you read the full review of the site, JUMP directly to that site, or link to the Usenet online discussion newsgroup that's related to that site's topic. Below each mini-review, you can also link to other topic subcategories for Web site reviews in JumpCity.

You can keep reading, or click on any mini-review's REVIEW button to read the full text of our review written for that site. Of course, at any time you can also click on any site's JUMP button to link directly to that site from JumpCity.

How Can I Search for Sites on JumpCity?

JumpCity's SEARCH feature lets you search the entire content of JumpCity to find only reviews of Web sites that fit the words or terms you're searching for.

You can use single words or phrases to search, called KEYWORDS, separated by a space--however, you'll have the most luck if you limit your search phrase to no more than two words.

To enter a keyword on your WebTV remote, press the center-arrow button to bring up WebTV's on-screen keyboard. Then, using your remote's arrow keys, select the letters from the on-screen keyboard to "type" your keyword on JumpCity's rectangular search box.

If you score a "hit" on your keyword search, you'll then see an abbreviated (mini-review--see above) listing of Web site reviews whose text contains the keywords you've entered.

Can I Get a Jump Code for My Web Site?

Yes. We will be launching our "open" Jump Code signup program in the near future. If you have a business, personal, corporate or government Web site, you will be able to receive a Jump Code for it at this time.

To receive announcements and updates by e-mail on our Jump Code feature, fill out our
information form, and we'll keep you up to date on these developments.
